Congratulations to our Student of the Month: Avery!

Avery taking silver at Dream BJJ, the second-largest competition in the nation.

Hi Avery, can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Avery I am 12 years old and I live in the San Gabriel area. I was born on May 24, 2007, and my favorite hobbies are playing pool and ping pong at home with my family. I also like cooking for my family and for myself, because I am always hungry. I cook a lot of pasta and Asian foods because I’m very Asian. Everything besides this I am a very lazy person at home, I just sit on the couch and watch YouTube.

Why did you start training Jiu-Jitsu?

I started Jiu-Jitsu because I am a very lazy person at home and I decided to get more exercise and be healthy for once. I also wanted to start this because I wanted to learn how to defend myself against other people, like my dad. Now since I do Jiu-Jitsu my dad doesn’t mess with me anymore.

When did you start training Jiu-Jitsu and how often do you come to class?

I’ve been going to class 3 times a week since April, which is about 7 months ago if my math is correct. If it isn’t then I have a D in math, but if it is I have an A++.

What is your favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu class?

My favorite part of Jiu-Jitsu is learning interesting and helpful techniques. I also like it that I’m getting exercise because I am lazy.

What do you like most about Professor Gino’s teachings?

I like it that Professor Gino is very calm and shows the techniques step by step. I also like that Professor Gino makes sound effects whenever he demonstrates things.

Questions for Avery’s dad Levy:

What improvements have you noticed in Avery since he started practicing Jiu-Jitsu?

Since Avery started jiu-jitsu, he has improved his nutrition and overall health.  He has also improved his focus on completing his tasks including school work.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Silanoe Martial Arts has a very supportive environment.  The other students are helpful and encouraging to newer students.

Avery’s dad notices his son’s overall health improvement and a better focus on his school tasks.

Martial Arts have always helped Professor Gino to stay in shape and to keep focused on other important activities such as academics or even learning to play a musical instrument.
