Student of the Month(Jiu-Jitsu Kids Program): Sammi W.

Congratulations to our Student of the Month: Sammi.
Sammi is in our kids Jiu-Jitsu program at Silanoe Martial Arts.
A special thanks also goes out to Sammi’s mom, Nancy who helped us with Sammi’s interview.

Hi Nancy, why did you enroll Sammi in the kids Jiu-Jitsu program?

I enrolled Sammi in the kids Jiu-Jitsu program because I wanted her to get exercise as well as learn self defense.

Can you please tell us a little bit about Sammi?

Sammi is 7 years old. She is a 2nd grader in Washington Elementary School in San Gabriel. She has a little brother, Lincoln, aged 4, who can’t wait to enroll in Jiu-Jitsu. Sammi loves to draw, craft, and do cardio exercises, such as running around.

When did Sammi start taking Jiu-Jitsu & how often does she come to class?

She began Jiu-Jitsu this summer, one month in July (at a different studio) and started at the Silanoe Martial Arts kids Jiu-Jitsu program in August. The frequency is 3x/week.

What is Sammi’s favorite thing about Jiu-Jitsu class?

Sammi’s favorite thing about Jiu-Jitsu class is working with other kids and getting stronger.

What does Sammi like the most about professor Gino’s teachings?

Sammi likes that Professor Gino demonstrates the moves in such a way that everyone can exactly see what to do. She also likes that he lets everyone do fun activities and play games at the end of class, if everyone pays good attention.

What improvements have you noticed in Sammi?

I have seen an improvement in Sammi’s physical condition. She started developing a little belly and had little muscle tone. Now, she has more physical strength which she demonstrates on the playground. She is able to climb and pull herself up which she wasn’t able to do before. Also, I can see her toughen up. Before Jiu-Jitsu, she would cry for every bump or fall she had. Now, she is able to pick herself up and dust herself up to keep going. I see that she has more confidence in herself. And she LOVES going to Jiu-Jitsu.
