Student of the Month: Antonio del Alto
Hi Antonio, please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am from a little town in Durango, Mexico. I have been living in different areas of Southern California such as Bell, Riverside, Nuevo, Temecula and La Puente. At the moment, I live in the city of Downey for a few years now. Besides Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA I also like American Football. I am a butcher by profession and I love to cook.
What classes do you take and what got you interested?
I have been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ever since I have met Professor Gino and I have been following him ever since.
At that time, I was already training some Muay Thai Kickboxing and some MMA but the efficiency of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is what really drew me.
How long have you been training and what is your current Jiu-Jitsu belt rank?
I have been training for over 3 years now and I am currently a Blue Belt.
What is your favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu class?
I do not have a particular favorite part of the Jiu-Jitsu class. I like it all, from the warming up to the Jiu-Jitsu techniques and the sparring.
In Jiu-Jitsu you are notorious for having a great armbar submission technique. What do you particularly like about that specific technique?
My armbar submission came naturally to me. I just go with the flow and it seems to work well with my body type. Besides, I think they are a quick and efficient way of winning a BJJ sparring match.
What current and future goals do you have?
I am working hard on and determined to get my Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
You travel from the Downey area what is your reason for training all the way in the San Gabriel Valley?
As mentioned earlier, I have followed Professor Gino ever since, and because he has opened Silanoe Martial Arts in San Gabriel, I make the commute from Downey to San Gabriel.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with us?
Nothing other than just watch out for my armbars:)
