BJJ kids student Allison from Alhambra with her Mom and sister at Silanoe Martial Arts

Congratulations to our kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu student of the month: Allison!
Allison is in our kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at Silanoe Martial Arts.
Special thanks also go out to Allison’s parents Lena and Marvin. They helped us with our questions for Allison.

Hi Allison, why did you start training Jiu-Jitsu?

I started training Jiu-Jitsu to protect myself and my family. I also did it to have fun and to learn moves that are safe for me.

Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am 7 years old. I love my family. I like to be joyful. My cousin Emma is my best friend and she is in my jiu jitsu class too. I am from Alhambra.
Allison and her cousin Emma both from Alhambra are students in the Jiu-Jitsu kids program

When did you start training Jiu-Jitsu and how often do you come to class?

I started in November. I usually go 3 times a week.

What is your favorite part about Jiu-Jitsu class?

I really like learning how to do moves. I also like to do the break falls.

What do you like most about Professor Gino’s teachings?

Professor Gino helps us focus. He also knows what he is doing and even helps us with the moves.

Questions for Marvin & Lena

What improvements have you noticed in Allison since she’s been doing Jiu-Jitsu?

We’ve noticed that Allison is more confident and social since she started jiu-jitsu. She’s also physically stronger – she tells me all the new and cool things she’s been able to do on the monkey bars at school that she wasn’t able to do before. This is the first activity that she is truly enjoying and very dedicated to. She never wants to miss jiu-jitsu class, even when she’s sick.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Allison is applying the things she’s learned from jiu-jitsu into her every day life. For example the confidence to stand up to another kid in school that was bothering her little sister Rachel. But she did it in a respectful but firm manner. And when she recently learned to ski in Mammoth she was having difficulty balancing on the skis. But when I suggested she try doing the “ready stance” like in jiu jitsu – it suddenly clicked for her and she was able to balance and ski down the hill. So every time she went to the top of the hill, she does her ready stance.
